Layer 1 is the base blockchain network that provides consensus, security, and final settlement. For Ethereum, L1 is the mainnet where validators finalize blocks and where the canonical state is recorded. L1 blockspace is scarce and often expensive during peak demand, which is why Ethereum increasingly treats L1 as premium settlement and data availability infrastructure rather than the place where every consumer transaction must occur. In mainstream adoption narratives–ETFs, stablecoin settlement, and RWA tokenization–L1’s credibility matters because high-value assets and proofs ultimately anchor there. Understanding L1 also clarifies why “Ethereum fees” can be high while the broader Ethereum ecosystem becomes cheaper via L2 rollups. A practical SEO framing is: L1 is the security and settlement layer; L2 is the scaling and user-experience layer, and both together define Ethereum adoption. #Ethereum #VEI #VirtualEthereumIndex.
